"Do Not Read in Public!! (Snorts & laughs draw strange stares!)"

“I kept turning the pages laughing each time while reading quotes out loud to my husband who also was laughing out loud. ”

Fasten your incontinence underwear and prepare to piss yourself laughing on a rollercoaster of hilarity and vulgarity. A British mother, living in California, tries to rid herself, her husband, two little kids, and killer cat of the dreaded PMS, which strikes terror into the household every month. The word irreverence takes on a whole new meaning. This hysterical diary of over 50,000 words does not simply help you laugh away your PMS (PMT), but also assists you in writing a resume that will ensure you never have to return to the workforce again. Men and women alike will learn how to deal with unwanted religious visitors to their homes, methods of coping with culinary disasters, and ways to use verbal abuse to rip new arseholes in those who cross your PMS-laden warpath. There is valuable advice about where and how not to travel with children, if you want life to be worth living.

The author insists, "If you need medical help, this is not the place to seek it. It is not a substitute for a trip to see your doctor, although I sincerely hope that it will be a little more interesting."

What a brilliant and hilarious look at PMS and child-rearing! This book is full of actual laughs. Out loud. And plenty of trails of giggles following afterwards. Honestly, I had to sit on a towel before I could safely finish it! It's borderline bawdy, so check your mild-mannered-tea-sipping-raised-pinkies at the door, and let loose the laughs! It's a refreshing change from the tsunami of "PC" overly-positive drivel that is poured over parents these days.

Though "Laugh in the Face of PMS Diary" is written from the perspective of a mother of two who is slightly overwhelmed (but, then again, what mother ISN'T?) and always amused by her family, I think the universal (and always humorous) truths will make anyone grin, if not guffaw. (Note: The author is British, which makes it all the more funny when read with that mental accent.) Don't miss this feel-good book! Great for lifting your spirits (but especially good when lifting glasses of wine), but BEWARE: IF YOU READ IT IN PUBLIC, BE PREPARED FOR THE CONCERNED STARES AND STERN LOOKS AS YOU LAUGH YOUR HEAD OFF!

Laugh in the Face of PMS Diary edition by Susan Callery Humor Entertainment eBooks Reviews

"I injured my nasal passages reading this, and have considered taking legal action. I was drinking a hot tea, and then the book made me laugh, which I could handle. I have some control. But then a sentence later it made me laugh again, which I could barely handle, and then during a sentence I was hoping would allow a brief reprieve from laughter, I tripped up on further hilarity, and with this I could not control myself, and the hot tea shot through my nose and onto a fairly new electronic reading tablet I really was becoming quite fond of. Now is all this -- the damage to my nasal passages, my tablet, and also some bills that were on the table and got soggy as a result of the eruption -- Ms. Callery's fault? I believe the answer is yes. So, I say, read, and even enjoy, but take the necessary precautions."
I tried to like this book, giving it the credit of a first book. I failed.
The fact remains that it is simply not funny.

Basically this tells (first person) the story of a border-line alcoholic mom with no apparent
parenting skills, with two badly-behaved kids, all three of which are in a near constant
state of tantrum, with the mom blaming her own to PMS, and giving no thought to any possible
Reason why the kids should be "little monsters"

The story tries very hard to build comic situations a-la what you'd find in a sitcom
(e.g after an embarrassing enchant with a stranger in a park it just so happens that
same stranger turns out to be the protagonist's husband's new boss) - but, at the end,
I found myself simply not laughing, at most very mildly amused.

I hope for the author's sake (and her kids) she has exaggerated, A LOT, trying to squeeze a laugh.
If not, she needs help (and a session or two at the local AA),
and her kids possibly need child-services intervention.
Such A delightful read- knowing the author personally made it even more enjoyable- can't wait for the sequel! Maybe entitled, "PPMS (Post PMS) and still looney!"
Hilarious, straight forward everyday humor. I kept turning the pages laughing each time while reading quotes out loud to my husband who also was laughing out loud. It is nice to laugh in the face of life ;-)
I'm half way through the book. It is a page turner with lots of laughs along the way! At times coping with PMS and daily life can seem unbearable.... being able to laugh at the craziness is a blessing)
A perfect example of a woman living on the edge bringing up 2 kids. The book is hilarious, sassy and sarcastic all in one go. And yes, I would imagine if I had kids of my own I would have pissed myself laughing too. For those with kids, I would suggest doing kegel exercises prior to reading.
I have kept my husband awake with laughing out loud as I read of the daily adventures of this sharp, witty, and bodacious woman!
Gear up your sense of humor and be prepared for outrageously funny adventures of a mom who says it all!
